World Title Unification?

Well, yes, I do realize that this is a Randy Orton site and I should post things that are Orton related. Well, this is MY site first of all, and second, this does somewhat concern Orton so I decided to bring this up. Now seeing that Randy DID hold both the World Heavyweight Championship and the WWE Championship is amazing overall. But I read a very brief article about World Wrestling Entertainment planning to unifying the World Championships, well…all of their titles by next year on NoDQ.Com, which stated:

WWE will be holding a Unification match for the Divas and Women’s Titles at Night of Champions. The talk Monday was that WWE is planning to unify all the titles in the next year and have one World Title, one Tag Team Title, one Intercontinental/US Title and one Women’s Title. The idea would be to do the WWE and World Title Unification match at Wrestlemania 27.

Now this concerns me. First of all, unifying the major championships is not a very good idea. Why? Well it takes away opportunities for rising stars to capture Heavyweight gold, and may delay them from even laying a finger on it. Now Randy has held his fair share of Heavyweight titles (6 to be exact), but with the unification of these titles after next year…the chances of him getting a title shot will be prolonged, in my eyes. There are other WWE superstars on the current roster that are impressing many viewers and management, getting the appropriate pushes and what not, yet they have either not had a decent title opportunity or they have, but ended up being a “fluke” or a “squash” sort of match, which is not fair. Another point. Having a major world title on both Raw and Smackdown showed who is the true “leader” of their respective brands, and gives some an opportunity to attempt to capture gold. Now that it may be merged into one, does that mean that only 1 superstar will be the leader of all of World Wrestling Entertainment? That is too pompous and arrogant for my liking. And if that is the case, will the consider merging Raw and Smackdown together as well? That will just be one big giant mess. Now just to switch pages briefly, TNA (yes, WWE’s “competition” –note the quotations) has one stable major title along with other titles and are doing fine. Simply because, they have a smaller roster of superstars and knockouts and are a smaller cooperation, so it doesn’t present much of a problem. WWE is a much bigger cooperation, with many more superstars and divas, with multiple brand (2 big name brands), so it’s best that a major world title be represented on each brand. So all in all I’m not fond of this idea. Even when the unification of the Divas’ and Womens’ title was brought about on Raw’s 900th episode this past monday, I cringed at the idea. The unification of the World Tag Team Titles is understandable, but not the Womens’/Divas’ title, US/Intercontinental Title, AND World Heavyweight/WWE Title. But whatever the outcome of it maybe, let’s just hope it does not malfunction terribly.

Anyways, I wanted to post that for you all to read and absorb. If you would like to send in your thoughts, tweet me (@kill_konviction) and we can chat about it, whether you agree or disagree with the article, or my opinions. But don’t send me hateful things, or I will gladly block you.

Big Show Mentions Orton

This is a little out-dated interview with the Big Show, but it was brought to my attention (thank you Candice!) and it’s a pretty interesting interview. :) This interview was conducted on August 13th, just a few days before Summerslam. Paul Wight (a.k.a. The Big Show) was asked a series of questions…when asked which superstar(s) has impressed him the most, this is what he had to say:

Which guys have impressed you?
Without a doubt, Miz. I’ve seen Miz grow over the years. I’m really impressed with Miz. Sheamus is another one I’m really impressed with – very physical, very intense. I like Sheamus a lot for our future. Drew McIntyre – I like watching Drew. I like Drew’s interviews. He’s very good on the microphone. He’s a real good in-ring performer. Of course, Randy Orton is probably one of the smoothest guys I’ve ever seen in the ring. He’s velvety smooth to watch in the ring. Randy is so good. He’s leaps and bounds better than people… Randy is going to be one of the best superstars of all-time if his career continues to evolve the way it’s evolving. Randy Orton has the potential to be that good. Ted DiBiase, Cody Rhodes, Dolph (Ziggler) … a lot of guys there that are up and coming and really have a bright future. Some of the NXT guys could do good things one day. We’ll see. When they decide to get smart and break out on their own and try to create their own achievements. The future does look very, very bright for the WWE. As far as new, dominant, big guy giants walking in, I think my job is pretty safe right now. I don’t think I’ve got any competition to worry about right now. So we’ll see.

Monday Night Raw — August 30th, 2010

The Nexus def. WWE Champion Sheamus, John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho & Randy Orton in a 5-on-5 Tag Team Elimination Match
Timing really is everything. At the conclusion of the night’s main event, The Nexus’ leader Wade Barrett proved that as he stood as proud and tall as London’s Big Ben.

Earlier in the evening, the Englishman was in the right place at the right time as he punished The Undertaker with a devastating slam to the canvas. At night’s end, he – along with his Nexus cohorts – emerged victorious in a 5-on-5 Tag Team Elimination Match against WWE Champion Sheamus, John Cena, Edge, Chris Jericho & Randy Orton.

Almost immediately, Jericho and Edge ditched their team. At a distinct disadvantage, The Celtic Warrior finally relented and was pinned by Heath Slater. Next up, Cena found himself in trouble against the overwhelming odds and eventually succumbed to the 450° Splash of Justin Gabriel.

Barrett’s fortuitous evening concluded, though, when Orton faced a 3-on-1 scenario. Although Orton has proven a staunch and worthy adversary of The Nexus and managed to eliminate Gabriel and Michael Tarver, he nonetheless was unable to overcome Barrett’s offense in a gutting defeat.

Owing to their mutual distrust of one another, the team of former world champions appeared to implode from lack of teamwork. Not surprising, perhaps, given the fact that they will be competing for the WWE Title at Night of Champions in three weeks. In the opening salvo for the coveted title, however, it appears Barrett has fired off one jolly good shot.

Not only did The Viper defeat Ted DiBiase and John Morrison in a Triple Threat Match, but he nailed John Cena with a vicious RKO at the end of the night.

Monday Night Raw — August 23rd, 2010

Randy Orton def. Ted DiBiase and John Morrison in a Triple Threat Match
That throne must really be comfy. After all, WWE Champion Sheamus, who has a penchant for involving himself where he doesn’t belong, actually stayed out of the Triple Threat Match between Randy Orton, John Morrison and Ted DiBiase.

The triumvirate of Superstars competed for the potential opportunity to be chosen by the Irishman to battle him in a title match at Night of Champions. During the bout, Sheamus actually exited to deliberate before announcing who he would face in four weeks. When the carnage was complete, it was The Viper who had snaked past his competition to secure the win.

WWE Champion Sheamus def. Zack Ryder; Raw’s General Manager announced Six Pack Challenge at Night of Champions

The Celtic “Worrier?” Perhaps WWE Champion Sheamus was too concerned about facing one of WWE’s elite Superstars or maybe he’s got a soft spot for Long Island. Whatever the reason, the Irishman chose to defend his title against Zack Ryder, not on pay-per-view, but on Raw.

A grateful Ryder thanked Sheamus for the opportunity before having his face kicked in and getting pinned inside of a mere 11 seconds. Woo, Woo, Woo. You know it!

After the match, there were several understandably irate Superstars, including Wade Barrett. The leader of The Nexus informed The Celtic Warrior that at Night of Champions, he would invoke the title opportunity he earned after winning season one of WWE NXT. Before the rivalry between England and Ireland could escalate, the Raw General Manager had a few points to make.

Sheamus would indeed defend his title against Barrett, the GM assured. However, he would also defend against four other Superstars in a Six Pack Challenge. Rounding out the field, the GM chose Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, Edge and John Cena. As each man stood wearily in the ring, the mistrust proved overwhelming and the six set out attacking one another, leaving only The Viper to stand tall after an emphatic RKO to Cena. The tension between the sextet assures that Night of Champions is also sure to be a night to remember.

3 Year Anniversary!

Wow! I still can’t believe that I have been managing a fansite for 3 years!! Holy Sh*t time flies! I’m so happy that I was able to remain active making this very fan-based site of my idol Randy Orton! It all started on myspace for 2 years and 4 months until it got really really REALLY lame. Then I matured this site to an ACTUAL website and I am really glad I did. I’m also happy on how my designing has GREATLY developed haha! It’s all thanks to much practice, hard-working, and extreme dedication. I just wanna say…thank you all that have stuck with me through my 3 year journey here on the world wide web, and a very special thanks to Randy Orton for inspiring me to make a website in his honor. I know he won’t see this post but I need to give him all the credit and appreciation that I have to offer to that incredible man! I’ll just end it with this…let’s go for four years, baby! Love you guys.
